Victorian Bathroom Decorating Ideas

Victorian homes were generally packed full of collections and ornaments.

A Victorian-themed bathroom can be homey as it welcomes you a back to a bygone romantic era. Antique color choices, ornate accessories and interesting patterns are all things to consider when collecting items for your bathroom. Secondhand stores are full of period pieces, and allow you the advantage of recycling as you decorate.

Shower Curtain

In many bathrooms, especially small ones, the shower curtain is the largest feature. Using this to emphasis your Victorian theme can be effective. Find a shower curtain with a Victorian pattern. Curtains with lacey patterns or faux upholstery designs work well. Match it to the color scheme you've chosen.

Vanity Accessories

Soap dispensers and dishes, toothbrush cups and tissue holders can all be adapted to the Victorian theme. Gold, silver or other ornate metal designs work perfectly. Even ceramic accessories can fit the theme, especially if they have painted designs on them reminiscent of fine china tea sets.

Towels

Floral embroidery can lend a Victorian feel to your towels.

Hanging towels can also help along the Victorian theme. Choose period-suitable colors such as deep red, gold or rich green. Matching washcloths can also be used. Hand towels with gold braid or fringe are also reminiscent of the era, as are embroidered floral designs or monograms on the towels.

Fixtures

Victorian-style faucets can be brass, silver or gold.

Bathroom sink and bathtub fixtures can be replaced with era-specific, ornate pieces. Brass or gold tub taps and showerheads can add an authentic feeling. Sink fixtures can be very ornate, with designs ranging from geometric to floral. These small changes will add an authentic feel to your Victorian decor.

Accessories

Victorian decor generally meant a lot of accessories and knickknacks, even to the point of crowding. This means that you can incorporate a number of decorative accessories into your bathroom without worrying about going overboard. Vases, silk flower arrangements, candleholders and ornamental animal statues would all be acceptable. Remember that a bathroom can be very humid, so choose items that will not rust or be damaged by a moist environment.
