Find A Bedroom Set

Your new bedroom set makes or breaks the bedroom.

Instead of buying one piece of bedroom furniture at a time, purchase a complete set to ensure you end up with pieces that share a common style, finish and design. Finding items as a set also makes shopping easier, since many stores display their sets together, providing an idea of what it might look like in your room. In addition, sets of furniture can be cheaper than pieces bought separately.

Instructions

1. Decide on a style for your bedroom. The bedroom set you choose will set the mood for the room, and knowing what you're looking for will make your search easier. For example, a wooden four poster colonial style bed with matching dresser and mirror gives a room traditional elegance and charm, while an angular metal bed frame paired with dark wood or metal furniture have a sleeker, modern appearance.

2. Decide on sizes. To get an idea of how the bed, dressers and nightstands will fit in your bedroom, take a floor plan of your room and measuring tape on your shopping trip. Leave 2 to 3 feet of space on either side of the bed. According to the Better Sleep Council, king size beds are ideal for couples, queen size beds work best for taller adults, and twin and full beds are ideal for people under 5 feet and 5 inches tall. Vertical dressers work better in small rooms because they don't take up much floor space, while horizontal dressers look better against long walls.

3. Visit furniture stores in your area to see what sets of bedroom furniture are available in the styles and configuration you prefer. In-stock furniture can be delivered more quickly than pieces that have to be ordered. But ordering furniture can give you finish and size options. Make a note of the pieces that come with each set and the price. Some bedroom sets, for example, will include one dresser, while others include two dressers and an armoire. All sets should come with a bed frame.

4. Compare the bedroom sets you found to those you see online. Major furniture retailers often have websites that offer a wider selection than individual locations. Factor actual shipping costs (not estimates) into the overall price if you are ordering online.

5. Look for used furniture at thrift stores, through people you know, or at stores that specialize in used furniture. Buying pieces used may make it more difficult to find a complete bedroom set, but it can also save you money. Test out anything you are considering buying by inspecting bed frames, opening drawers and examining each item in a lighted area for flaws.
