Design Boys Bedrooms Cheaply

Use paint for inexpensive bedroom decor.

Decorating boys' bedrooms doesn't have to be an expensive undertaking. Look at pictures of rooms you like and pull out the elements that speak to you most. Decide what atmosphere you want to create, whether it's calm and serene or bright and playful. Choose a color palette that enhances that atmosphere. Sort through items you already own to find pieces that will work in the new room. Search garage sales and thrift stores for inexpensive additions to your collection.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls for an inexpensive but effective change of scene. Choose a neutral shade that will work with many colors and designs to avoid having to repaint each time you change the decor, or choose a color that draws the eye and makes a statement. Decide whether you want the walls to be a background for your decor or whether you want them to be a central element.

2. Add a focal piece to the wall. If you have a specific theme, choose a piece that highlights the theme. A model ship brings a nautical air to the room, while a framed western print carries out a cowboy theme. Simple pieces are budget-friendly and are easy to switch out when you get tired of the current decor. Use common items as decor, such as a fishing rod hung on the wall or a pair of old cowboy boots on a shelf.

3. Purchase bedding that is basic in style and color. Add pillows or a throw blanket to spice up the look without having to purchase an entire bedding set. This is particularly helpful when a theme involves licensed characters, which often makes products more expensive than their plain counterparts. Instead of buying superhero bedding and furniture, for example, buy plain objects in similar colors and accent with a superhero poster or action figure collection.
