Decorate A Bedroom With Yellow Walls

Whether you chose to paint the walls in the bedroom yellow or they were that way when you moved in, you are off to a great start for decorating. According to an article titled "The Psychology of Color" at psice.com, yellow walls in a room will not only brighten the room itself but can also brighten the mood of its inhabitants. Decorating a space with yellow walls can be tricky, but here are some guidelines that will help bring out the best in your bedroom.

Instructions

1. Choose the right shade. You may be painting the walls from scratch, or you may want to adjust the shade of the yellow walls that are already there. Either way, be sure to choose a shade of yellow that will go with your personal decorating style and the style of the rest of the house. For example, if the home is filled with warm and neutral tones, you may decide to use a shade of yellow with deep golden undertones or even a mustard yellow color. On the other hand, for a home with bright, light colors, a bedroom with a lighter yellow or even a canary yellow shade will work best, especially if the bedroom gets a lot of natural light.

2. Use white. Contrary to what you may think, white is one of the best colors you can use to bring out the yellow tones in walls. According to the Home Tonic website, white trims and moldings work well to balance the yellow color. Decorate a yellow room with white furniture, shelves and lamps. Using white for things that will be up against or near the yellow walls will make them pop. You can reserve colors for other items such as the bedspread, flowers, picture frames and other decorative accents.

3. Choose accent colors. A great thing about yellow is that so many colors go with it. If the bedroom has bright or light yellow walls and lot of natural light, use colors such as sky blue, bright to light green, any shade of pink or even a soft orange. For a room with warm yellow walls, use rich shades such as burnt orange, forest green and navy blue.

4. Add decorative items using the accent colors. Keeping in mind the accent colors you have chosen to incorporate, decorate the room with a bedspread, pillows, pictures on the wall, picture frames, books, throw blankets, flowers and mirrors. To keep the room from looking too busy, you will usually want to stick with one or two accent colors since the yellow will already stand out. Yellow walls are at their best when the room has a simple, clean decorative style.
