Master Bedroom Paint Ideas

Warm colors work well with wood floors and furniture.

Your master bedroom should be a relaxing place to unwind after a long day, a retreat for you and the person with whom you share it. The color choice for your bedroom is a matter of personal taste, but some color combinations work well to preserve the feeling of relaxation in a master bedroom or create a vibrant, sensual space to indulge in after a long day.

Warm Colors

Warm colors, including reds, yellows, oranges and browns, can create a feeling of sensual indulgence or relaxation, depending on the shade. Even purples that tend more toward red than blue can create a feeling of warmth and romance. Don't feel like you're stuck with primary colors, though. For a bright master bedroom that gives you a cheerful start to the day, try a bright salmon color on the walls, combined with a white ceiling and semi-gloss bright white trim. For a more subtle approach, try peach paint with glossy stained wood trim. If you want a rich, romantic bedroom, start with light cream-colored walls, then use a red wine-colored faux finish glaze over them, combined with wine-colored trim and matching curtains and bedding. Warm purple can work as well as red for this purpose, and adding an accent wall that is a solid version of your glaze color will add drama to the room.

Cool Colors

Many people prefer cool blues and greens for relaxation, but dark shades of cool colors can make a room feel oppressive or cold. If you prefer cools, aim for medium to light tones, such as sage green or blues that evoke images of the ocean or sky. For medium to darker blues, use the blue only on the top half to two-thirds of the wall, then add horizontal trim and paint the bottom half a lighter shade of the same color. Purples have more warmth due to the red within them, so using a deep purple accent wall to contrast with a lavender room can create a soothing look that works well with either wood or neutral tone carpet flooring.

Neutrals

Neutral colors don't have to be boring and lifeless. Create a natural, earthy look by painting most of your walls a neutral beige or tan, then using a burnt umber or terra cotta accent wall. Add olive green trim and bedding accents and bamboo or wood flooring for a cohesive look. Gray and white also make a great neutral combination. Use multiple shades of gray, including a medium to dark accent wall, a medium gray base wall with a white glaze and bright white trim. This will allow you to go with any color of bedding and decor you choose without changing your walls.
