Install A Bedroom Door

Keeping your home updated is very important in order to increase its value. A simple change such as installing new bedroom doors can make your home look brand new and can change the interior style to fit your design wants. Installing a bedroom door on your own can be easy with the right tools and proper preparation.

Instructions

1. Remove the original door. Remove the trim using a pry bar and hammer. Using a sawzall cut through the nails around the exterior of the door between the frame and the studs.

2. Set a new bedroom door into place. Place the door into the frame space. Attach the hinge side of the door frame to the studs making sure it is level.

3. Install the bedroom door. Place shims along the door between the frame and studs on the opposite side from the hinges to level the door. Using a nail gun insert nails through the frame just below the shims to hold them in place. Place the door on the frame. Shut the door and check the distance to the top and sides. Once the space is even shoot through the shims using the nail gun to set the door into place. Break off protruding shims even with the frame.

4. Trim out the bedroom door. Measure the height of the door frame to the middle of the top corner. That will be the shorter side of the trim cut. Using a miter saw cut from the previous measure, in a 45 degree angle, up to the left and another trim piece up to the right. Hang trim boards using a nail gun and finish nails. Measure the distance to each shorter corner of the side trim pieces. Cut a trim board to fit the top and attach it in the same manner. Repeat this step for the other side. Finish off the trim with wood filler for a staining or Spackle for painting.
