Paint Bedroom Cupboards

Paint bedroom cupboards to refresh your decor.

Repainting cupboards gives a bedroom a virtual makeover for very little money. Changing cupboard colors from pink and white to neon purple and green transforms a little girl's room into a space suitable for a teenager. Painting over those bright colors later on with a soft sage green turns your teen's room into a nice guest room. Painting is not only inexpensive, it's easy. Rollers and dual-purpose primer paints make these jobs go even faster than before. You can paint bedroom cupboards in an afternoon with the right tools and know-how.

Instructions

1. Remove all of the furniture you can from around the cupboards. Spread a plastic dropcloth over the floor under the cupboards and place your tools and supplies on top of it.

2. Remove the hinges from the cupboard with an electric hand drill and place them in a plastic bowl. Do the same with the door handles. Set the bowl aside.

3. Lay the cupboard doors under their corresponding cupboards so you can keep track of them. Pour a little paint into a roller tray and dip a roller into it. Roll the roller up and down the tray to blot it.

4. Roll paint smoothly onto the fronts of your cupboard doors using firm, vertical strokes. Overlap the strokes slightly to coat the doors completely. Let them dry overnight, flip them over and paint the insides, too.

5. Pour a little more paint into your tray while the door fronts dry. Dip the tip of a brush into the paint and paint the cupboards proper. Use a little paint at a time to avoid dripping and runs.

6. Allow the cupboards and doors to dry for at least 12 hours. Screw the hinges and handles back onto the doors and reinstall them.
