Bedroom Themes A Mythical Sea Creature

Decorative accents, like a mermaid-adorned pillow, complement a mythical sea creature theme.

The bedroom is a place where you can get creative with your decor, personalizing the space that will be your exclusive retreat from the challenges of everyday life. For those who have a penchant for underwater mythology, a sea creature theme could be the best fit. The walls of the bedroom and the decorative accents that you include in your design can enhance the theme.

Mermaids

Mermaids are one of the most popular mythical sea creatures among people of all ages. Many little girls sleep in a bedroom that has been decorated with the licensed Disney character Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" movie. For adults, a mermaid-themed bedroom can mimic the ocean floor by painting the walls a light blue shade and placing a beige, or sand, colored rug on the floor. The Girls Themed Bedrooms website suggests complementing any mermaid design with mermaid-centric, made-to-order wall murals and decorative accents including throw pillows, lamps and drawer knobs.

Loch Ness Monster

Another mythical sea creature known to most is the Loch Ness Monster, otherwise known as "Nessie." Believed to resemble a dinosaur-like creature deep within the water, those who have claimed to see Loch Ness describe a large animal with a snake-like head and tail swimming in a lake near the city of Inverness in northern Scotland. A bedroom theme centered around Nessie can highlight its Scottish heritage, with castle-centric decor and lake drawings or pictures that invoke the city of Inverness.

The Kraken

As legend has it, the Kraken is an enormous, octopus-like sea creature that attacked Norwegian ships by wrapping its multiple arms around the vessel and capsizing it, according the The Museum of Unnatural Mystery. A bedroom design rooted in Kraken lore chould include ships and octopus accents, as well as a Norwegian color scheme using the region's flag colors of red, white and blue.

Leviathan

Also known as the dragon of the sea, Leviathan is described in the Catholic Bible as a great sea monster, according to Mythical Realm. Like many dragons, it is said to breathe fire and have thick, leathery skin. Because this mythical sea creature is to be feared, a themed bedroom could include darker colors, such as navy blue walls and bedding. A mural of a sea dragon can be painted on the walls and dragon-like statues can be placed about the room.
