Install Bathroom Faucets

Installing a new bathroom faucet requires little more than a wrench and some elbow grease. Follow these instructions to help give your bathroom sink an attractive overhaul.

Instructions

Remove Your Old Faucet

1. Make sure your sink has the appropriate number of holes. If you are using a one-piece kit, make sure that the holes are in the right places.

2. Turn off the shut-off valves underneath the sink.

3. Remove the supply tubes. You will probably need a wrench to turn the nuts. Drain the water in the tubes into a bucket.

4. Remove the washers and nuts from the faucet, and take out the faucet.

5. Clean the holes thoroughly.

6. Be sure to read your faucet's instructions to see if there are any pre-assembly steps.

Installing a New Faucet

7. Be sure to read your faucet's instructions to see if there are any pre-installation assembly steps.

8. Insert the plastic gasket in between the sink and face plate. If your kit did not come with a gasket, create a seal with plumber's putty.

9. Apply a washer and nut underneath each supply tube.

10. Attach the supply tubes to the shut-off valves.

11. Install the pop-up mechanism according to the instructions in your kit. There are so many different types that it is important to read your instructions carefully.

12. Insert the lift rod and attach it to the pop-up mechanism.

13. Turn on the water, and check for any leaks. If you find a leak, remove the part and create a seal around that area with plumber's putty.
