Chic Bedroom Colors

Purple curtains add a chic sophistication to any bedroom.

Chic bedroom colors are available for everyone, no matter their favorite colors or decor style. From traditional to trendy, use these colors as the main focus of your bedroom or as accents in small but noticeable accessories and bed coverings. Make each color scheme your own by adding your own twist with an unexpected pop of color.

Traditional

Traditional chic brings images of glamor and sophistication. Deep jewel-like colors, such as amethyst, claret and indigo, set the scene for elegant accessories in soft colors. Shades of brown and creams offer a more natural-looking chic, especially when paired with natural materials, such as bamboo or dark wood furniture. Introduce interesting patterns in similar colors but with different amounts of shine, perhaps using a semi-gloss paint, a glass vase and a matte bedspread.

Trendy

For up-to-the-minute chic, choose one of the colors selected by large paint companies as their color of the year. For 2011, Benjamin Moore has chosen Vintage Wine, which has a deep brown base with an undertone of smokey violet. A light, airy citrus yellow is the 2011 choice of ICI Dulux. As a major influence in color in fashion and home decor, Pantone's choice is honeysuckle, which is a bright shade of pink-red that replaces their 2010 choice of turquoise. These are all strong, vibrant colors that you could use as accents in your bedroom or as dramatic color statements on the walls.

Textured

Although not a color, a monochromatic bedroom color scheme relies on a variety of textures to add interest. This scheme is successful if you choose variations of a sophisticated neutral tone. Soft grays, with either cool or warm undertones, provide a background against which textures will stand out. Coffee and taupe shades, such as mocha and bone, develop a natural look as well as reflect light softly. While shades of white may not be practical in a bedroom, choose creams such as buttermilk and papyrus.

With a Twist

Add your own twist to these color schemes to make your bedroom decor truly your own. Add purple accessories and cushions for a chic, sophisticated touch or perhaps a splash of acid lime for a funky chic. Tie your decor into the Mediterranean with bright blue pillows, and evoke an urban feeling with shiny metallic surfaces. Use colors that contrast, or even clash, to develop your own chic touch.
