Darken Bedroom Windows

Light streaming in through a window is extremely annoying for someone who wants to sleep in a little bit more. Bright bedroom windows also make it difficult to sleep during the day and work at night. There are ways to darken your bedroom windows if you find sunlight, or even the light from a street lamp, impeding your sleep. A trip to a home-improvement store can help you fix the problem pretty quickly.

Instructions

Black-Out Curtains

1. Install brackets and curtain rods above each window you want to darken using the appropriate tools, such as a drill and screwdriver.

2. Hang black-out curtains on the rods. These curtains have fabric backs that do not allow light to bleed through. Although it might seem like black-out curtains would be dark, heavy and thick, they are not always. Because the black-out fabric is on the back of the curtains, you can have light-colored curtains that still block the light.

3. Keep the curtains closed at night, during the day or whenever you want to block out light.

Black-Out Window Film

4. Roll out black-out window film, which sticks to your windows and blocks out light, onto a large, flat surface. Measure your windows, pane by pane, and cut out corresponding pieces of the black-out film.

5. Remove the backing from the window film and apply it to the windows, pane by pane. Smooth the film onto the windows so that you don't have any bubbles.

6. Hang curtains over the windows if you want to hide the look of the black-out window film.
