Build A Simple Dining Table

Build a Simple Dining Table

Building your own dining table can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the cost of buying a new one. Another benefit of building your own dining table is that it's a piece of craftsmanship that you can take pride it and pass on through your family for generations. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, building a dining table can be a rewarding experience.

Instructions

1. Purchase your piece of plywood and other materials from a home improvement store or lumber yard. The cable reel is a piece of equipment electricians use to hold electrical cables. Either search online or talk to your local electricians to see if they have any available. Once you have acquired the cable reels, clean them thoroughly before using them.

2. Cut off each of the four edges of your piece of plywood and discard them, using the saw. Sand each of the edges down until they're smooth and even in size and appearance. Sand the rest of the wood and the cable reels in any areas that appear to be rough and wipe off any dust shavings with a wet rag.

3. Place the piece of plywood on top of the two cable reels. Ensure that the cable reels are spaced about 1 foot apart from the middle of the table and are centered by length and width of the plywood. Attach the plywood to each of the two cable reels by drilling four 2-inch screws down through the top of the plywood into the top of the cable reels. Use your level to ensure that the tabletop is level and even.

4. Smooth out any additional areas that feel rough to the touch, using the sander. Apply a thorough coat of stain; let the stain dry and apply one more coat. Let the table dry for at least 12 hours before using it. Keep it in a well-ventilated area to avoid any fumes from the stain.
