Decorate An Orange Teen Bedroom

Throw pillows can neutralize or add pop to an orange-colored bedroom.

Decorating an orange bedroom for a teenager isn't difficult if you keep the teen's personality and tastes in mind. Orange is a warm, vibrant color that energizes a bedroom area. Depending on the shade, it may require toning down with neutral or white colors to prevent it from becoming overwhelming. Combining it with a contrasting color adds a bit of pizazz if the teen wants to make a dramatic statement.

Instructions

1. Look at the shade of orange that the teen wants to base the bedroom colors around. If the color is similar to tones in natures, such as terracotta, cinnamon or dried leaves, adding neutral tones in the room helps create a warm, back-to-nature look. If the orange shade is bright or fiery like tangerine, persimmon or pumpkin, adding lime green, fuchsia or turquoise as accent colors gives the room a funky look.

2. Pick bedding and draperies in a print that has the orange shade in it. If the walls are orange, select a floral, plaid or other print that has just a touch of orange in the pattern. Choose bolder, abstract prints if you want to give the room punch and create a contemporary statement. Another idea is to pick bedding in a solid contrasting or monochromatic shade of orange to tone down orange walls. White and neutral colors help tame orange walls if the shade seems overwhelming to you.

3. Toss throw pillows on the bed that help to neutralize the orange color or that make it pop. For instance, if you have a floral print bedding of orange, lime green and white blossoms, select lime green or white throw pillows. If the bedding is a plaid color with a small amount of orange that you want to accentuate, purchase throw pillows in the orange shade.

4. Purchase a rug that mimics the theme in the bedroom. For instance, if the theme is a floral pattern with lots of earth tones in it, adding a solid-colored rug with a small floral border gives continuity to the room. For a theme that is sports related, such as decor from a college or professional football team, add a rug that carries the logo as well or one that has a football on it.

5. Hang framed pictures or artwork that contains the orange color of the walls or other decor and the accent colors you want to enhance in the area. Orange bedrooms with feminine touches look attractive with floral or outdoorsy scenes. Sports-related posters may depict a picture of the teen's favorite sports figure, the rules of the game or supplies necessary for the game.
