Images & Ideas For Teenagers' Bedrooms

Take a room from plain to inspired with a few steps.

Teenagers know their interests, creative ideas and aesthetic preferences. It's smart to design their bedroom when they have an idea of what they like. To make a bedroom for a teenager come to life, you can play with images, paint and bedding. Also, making a room modular and useful is important. There are a few key ways to achieve this look---all you need is a little creativity and inspiration.

Colors

Choose a color palette that will show creativity and maturity.

Teens are constantly changing; it is key to choose a color palette that will suit their changing styles. HGTV's website for teen bedrooms suggests that it is a good idea to choose colors that help transition between the teen years. Choose a mature, solid color that the teen is sure to like---and select an appropriate hue that matches their personality. While some tweens like brighter colors, for example hot pink, you may want to go with a more mature deep pink shade. This way, the color will be suitable for a prolonged period of time. Don't be afraid to try an accent wall. An accent wall is painted a completely different color than the other walls. This gives the room balance and a sense of maturity.

Photos

Use pictures to bring personality to the bedroom.

Teenagers are passionate about their favorite movies and bands; try inviting those interests into their bedroom. Have the teen select a photo of a band or a movie still. Have the photo re-sized at a local paper shop and placed inside a large frame. Experiment with using a few large photos or several smaller photos across one wall to give the room an artistic look. Try printing the photos in black and white if you want their image to contrast with a colored wall.

Modular Space

Neat storage makes a room functional and comfortable.

To make a room modular ensure that each piece of furniture can work with or fit with one another. For instance, purchase a large desk for the teenager. The chair should fit neatly underneath the desk. Underneath, you should also be able to fit storage bins or drawers that can hold extra clothing, laundry or video games. This way, the belongings are not cramped into every corner and can be tucked away neatly beneath a specific space. Consider also purchasing an entertainment console that can fit a T.V., video game consoles and a radio---this makes it easy to wrap up all the wires and electronics in one space.
