Interior Decorating Ideas & Photos For Bedrooms

Decorate your bedroom in a way that makes you feel at home.

The bedroom is a key place where you spend time resting and relaxing in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Decorate this space in a style that inspires certain feelings within you and is representative of your funky tastes, whether that style be cluttered, romantic, spartan or elegant.

Minimalist

The minimalist bedroom is a simple, clutter-free environment.

In a minimalistic approach to decorating a bedroom, the idea is for the room to be as simple as possible. Ideally, a minimalistic bedroom has white walls and furniture to streamline the look of the room. Although this is the a common minimalistic style, if you want to use color, you can; however, try to only use one bold color. A monochromatic look is fine as long as too many elements are not used in the decorating scheme. Keep the amount of furniture featured to a minimum.

Retro

A retro room uses bright colors and abstract accessories.

A bedroom that is decorated with in a retro style uses trends from the past, often of the 1960s and 1970s. Bold and bright colors are used on the walls and linens; complementary colors are featured in room accessories, such as a lamp or a desk. This approach to decorating a room is budget-friendly as many vintage items can be purchased at yard sales or consignment shops.

Modern

The modern room has a sleek feel with up-to-date furniture and accessories.

The modern style of decorating gives your bedroom a sleek and sophisticated image. Whether you choose to use bold colors or mainly whites, blacks and grays or silvers, you can achieve a modern look in your room by using linear furniture and geometrically shaped accessories to offset the furniture. Also, in a modern style, clutter is not an option; each item in the room should have a purpose to it, similar to the minimalistic look.

Romantic

The traditional romantic room takes after the Victorian era.

The first color that comes to mind when decorating a room in a romantic style is red. Although this color should definitely be used in one hue or another, other colors should also be used to complement such a strong color. A variety of browns and tans complement red and burgundy colors. Decorate the room with red-shaded lamps and hang light-colored pieces of lace over the windows. When choosing the type of furniture to use, select a Victorian-style sleigh bed or canopy that is made out of a rich wood, such as mahogany or oak. If you decide to use artwork, many art pieces from the Victorian era work in a romantic-style bedroom.
