Clean Bathroom Mold In Sheetrock

If you have exposed sheetrock in your bathroom, you'll need to clean it often to ensure that it doesn't develop common bathroom stains such as soap scum, hard water residue and mold. Mold commonly grows in bathrooms because they are often the most humid room in your home, and because mold needs moisture in order to survive. Prevent mold from growing by airing out your bathroom after every shower by opening windows and turning on exhaust fans. Cleaning mold growth as soon as it develops will also help prevent it from growing out of control. Be careful when cleaning sheetrock as it is extremely sensitive to moisture.

Instructions

1. Put on gloves, goggles and a dust mask to protect yourself from the mold spores and from the bleach solution.

2. Open the window in your bathroom to ventilate it, but close the door to help ensure that the mold doesn't move to another area of your home.

3. Mix 1 cup bleach with 1 gallon hot water.

4. Dip a sponge into the bleach solution and wring it out as much as possible so that it is just slightly damp. Never apply too much moisture to sheetrock as water can deteriorate it.

5. Rub the sponge over the surface of the sheetrock mold. Allow the solution sit on the area for 10 minutes.

6. Scrub the sheetrock with a soft-bristled brush until you loosen all of the mold growth.

7. Wipe the mold off with paper towels.

8. Rinse the sheetrock with a water-dampened sponge, but do not apply too much water.

9. Dry the walls completely to prevent the mold from growing back.
