Diy Soundproof Bedroom

Soundproof your bedroom to keep sounds from entering or exiting.

Noise from the environment, your neighbors and even people inside your home can easily slip into your bedroom. Not only does it interfere with your sleeping, but it can make doing anything inside your room difficult. Reading a book or even listening to music is hard to do when you hear noises coming from outside. Soundproofing your bedroom nearly guarantees that you'll start getting a good night's sleep, every night of the week.

Instructions

1. Check your bedroom for any signs of holes or cracks, including cracks around electrical boxes and windows. Any small hole allows noise from the outside to get inside your bedroom. To block out those sounds, cover all the holes with acoustical caulk.

2. Change the door to your bedroom, opting for a door with a solid core. Traditional interior doors have a hollow core, which can't block sound waves like solid-core doors do. Add weather stripping around the door to serve as an additional blocker of sound.

3. Add drapes or wall hangings around the room, to block out more noise. The fabric acts as a buffer, absorbing many of the sound waves before they reach your ears. Use drapes on the windows in your bedroom and use the wall hangings on shared walls and other spaces where you have a problem with noise.

4. Make your own drop ceiling-style piece, with fabric and thumbtacks. Hang sheets of fabric from the ceiling, adding thumbtacks at each corner to secure the pieces. Cover the majority of the ceiling with the fabric. This helps block out some of the noise and is cheaper than installing a drop ceiling.

5. Install thick carpeting on the floors of your bedroom, especially if you have neighbors below or share a house with roommates. The sound waves pass through the floor easily, but carpets helps muffle the noise. Plus, it reduces the noise that others hear when you walk around your bedroom.
