Make A Bathroom Appear Larger With Glass And Light

Make a Bathroom Appear Larger with Glass and Light

Most bathrooms see almost as much traffic and usage as the front door. This is why decorating and making it more appealing and comfortable for family members and guests alike is so important. However, part of the challenge of decorating, can be the space in your bathroom, or lack there-of. Making a bathroom appear larger with glass and light is an effective, fairly inexpensive way to maximize the limited space in your bathroom. Read on to learn how:

Instructions

1. Plan. Before you begin your project, survey your bathroom to determine what can be changed without the need of a contractor. In particular, pay close attention to the location of your window or windows (if any), as well as open wall space.

2. Begin your bathroom transformation with fresh, bare walls to make room for the glass and/or mirror. Remove any pictures or wall hangings, shelves or other wall accessories that can safely be taken down.

3. Plan the layout for your mirror placement. Each mirror should, ideally, be strategically positioned to reflect natural light from your window/s. The mirrors should also be positioned so that their reflections bounce off each other. This will increase the amount of light in the room, making it look much larger than it is. Once you are satisfied with your layout plan, hang up your mirrors, making any necessary adjustments.

4. Use glass to create the illusion of open space. Install seamless glass shower doors to allow the light in the room to bounce off the walls and mirrors freely. These will also compliment the increased amount of light, created by the mirror placement. Amplify the effect by installing glass shelving to hold toiletries and bathroom accessories.

5. Maximize the amount of natural light in your bathroom by taking advantage of your windows, if you have one or more in your bathroom. Choose window coverings that provide minimal shading, letting a maximum amount of natural light spill into the bathroom. Light colored window dressings have the same effect. Curtains offer the option of controlling the amount of privacy and light.

6. Sky lights are also an excellent source of natural light. A skylight can provide a wonderful amount of natural light while causing it to seem like the ceiling is much farther away.

7. Use recessed lighting to direct light to your mirrors or light colored walls to enhance the illusion of space in the bathroom. Vanity lights are an effective way to draw attention to the main mirror as they add to the reflective property of the various mirrors around the room.
