Duct A Bathroom Fan

Bathroom vent fans are only as efficient as the ductwork that is attached to them. Like all the other aspects of building a home, ductwork has to be installed properly. Bathroom fans help clear the steam from the room as well as unwanted odors. If the ductwork is not properly installed, the bathroom fan will be less than productive.

Instructions

1. Climb into the attic and locate the bathroom fan. Since heat rises, it is important to get the ductwork pointed straight up as soon as possible.

2. Secure the first piece of the duct pipe to the fan with the provided screws. Be certain that this is pointing as straight up as it can. Depending on the available space, this can be as straight as an elbow bend.

3. Secure the next piece of duct pipe to the first one. Continue using straight pipe until you reach the roof rafters.

4. Install an elbow pipe as close to the rafters as possible. Cut a piece of plumber's strap with the tin cutters and suspend the duct pipe from the rafters with 1¼-inch drywall screws.

5. Install as much pipe as needed to get to the wall where the duct pipe will vent out of the attic. Mark the center of the hole that needs to be drilled for the outside boot to slip through it and drill it with a large enough hole saw for this purpose.
