Make A Vintage Bedroom

Finding an interesting piece of furniture can add character to a vintage bedroom.

Not all vintage bedrooms are the same. Before creating a vintage look for your room, decide if you want a shabby chic, old Hollywood glam or feminine floral vibe. For inspiration, wander around local flea markets and antique shows, and do some research in decorating magazines and online. Sometimes finding a great antique armoire or iron bed can generate ideas for the entire room.

Instructions

1. Measure the room, and use graph paper to lay out the pieces you want to purchase. If you have an interesting architectural detail in the room like a window seat or archway, you may want to accentuate it and make it a focal point.

2. Select vintage wallpaper to offset the furniture and create the mood you want. For a sophisticated and formal look, choose Damask vintage wallpaper in a floral or crest design. A vintage tropical leaf design can give the room a Palm Beach look. Retro floral wallpaper is traditional for a feminine bedroom. For a vintage child's room, look at zoo animals or trains, planes and old-fashioned automobiles.

3. Use colors in the wallpaper to create a color scheme for the room. Silver Damask wallpaper will lend itself to a silver and white glamorous color scheme, while a floral design suggests decorating the room in pink and green. For children, yellow is a popular vintage color.

4. Find an interesting antique or antique reproduction furniture piece to act as a focal point for the room. A spectacular Rococo-style wood bed is eye-catching, and canopy beds can also give a vintage appearance to the room. Dressing tables and writing desks fit in well in a vintage bedroom. Vintage armoires and wardrobes add storage space to the room and can also serve as a focal point.

5. Use many pillows, down comforters, quilts and crocheted Afghans for the bed. You can transform your linens into a retro look by sewing crocheted lace onto your pillowcases and sheets.

6. Add accessories like antique mirrors, beaded lampshades, tatted doilies and antimacassars to complete the vintage look. Antique water pitchers and their matching bowls give an antique look to the room. Beautiful vintage jewelry boxes, heavy glass candlesticks and hat boxes add to the allure of a vintage bedroom.
