Decorate A Yellow Bedroom

Pale yellow walls can bring about a feeling of good cheer.

Historically, the color yellow has held a variety of meanings for different cultures, such as courage during Japan's war of dynasty and mourning in Egypt and Burma. Used carefully, yellow in a bedroom can inspire energetic and optimistic thoughts and feelings because of its association with flowers and sunshine. But too much prolonged exposure to intense shades of yellow can cause irritation or crankiness. For example, babies tend to cry more in yellow rooms, according to Color Wheel Pro. But for children, teens and adults, pale to bright yellow can stimulate mental activity and foster a sense of well-being.

Instructions

1. Place your bed so it's in a commanding position when you enter the room, especially if you have an ornate or upholstered headboard. Choose white furniture for a fresh spring or summer vibe and chocolate brown furniture to lend a sophisticated or contemporary look.

2. Make the bed with a white duvet or comforter with a simple yellow blanket folded to just cover the foot of the bed for a luxurious or contemporary feel. A colorful patchwork quilt that includes yellow and white will create a cheerful farmhouse look over a white duvet. A pink and yellow striped or floral duvet or comforter set can work for a bubbly teen. Use a blue striped or plaid comforter with hints of yellow to establish a more masculine feel without working against the yellow walls.

3. Install floor-to-ceiling curtains that are wider than necessary if you want to disguise your yellow walls. Bring in lamps or other sources of light as it might make the room feel slightly smaller.

4. Hang black and white photographs in over-sized glass frames to allow the yellow walls to show through for a modern, artsy look. Consider a picture with golden leaves or a garden full of yellow flowers for a softer touch. Complement a contemporary scheme with abstract art with hints of yellow.

5. Accessorize the room with pillows, a rug, candles and lamps in contrasting colors. Lime green pillows and a charcoal rug would work for a modern-style room. Orange and fuchsia would add a tropical summery feel, while cobalt blue could be used to cool down a pale yellow room.
