Decorate A Girl'S Bedroom On A Budget

Decorating a girl's room doesn't have to be expensive.

If your daughter's bedroom is in need of a makeover, don't fret if you don't have the money to buy her a new bedroom suite. You can begin this decorating project with many things you already own. Along with a few select items picked up at a flea market, you can create a world of wonder for your daughter. Once you know what to do, you can have your daughter's rooms thriftily redecorated in no time.

Instructions

1. Select a theme for your daughter's room. This theme can be anything from mermaids to polka dots. Borrow ideas from a favorite object, movie or story to develop a theme. If your daughter loves the ballet, use objects and fabrics, such as slippers and tulle, that work into the theme.

2. Paint the room a favorite color. A fresh layer of paint can transform a room for very little money. Allow your daughter to select a paint color that expresses her personality, such as pink or lilac.

3. Paint objects you already own for a different look. This will save you money because a different color makes things feel brand-new. Picture frames, desks, chairs and bed frames look completely different with a fresh coat of paint. You can use colors that enhance the theme of the bedroom or use a contrasting color that adds a burst of color. A yellow chair in a lime-green room will look sunny and bright.

4. Shop at flea markets, consignment shops and garage sales for bedroom items. Look for lamps, shades, comforters, rugs and window treatments that will work with your theme. Only buy things you need or you know will look good in the room.

5. Replace window treatments with something you can make. You can find fabric panels for very little money, and all they need to become a window treatment is a casing and a hem. Dress them up with fancy tiebacks that enhance the theme of the room. You may want to use silk or satin ribbon for tiebacks in a room with a ballet theme.

6. Hang favorite items for decoration. An old pair of ballet slippers makes an eye-catching statement in an empty frame. Tie the slippers together at the laces and hang them from a nail on the wall. Hang a frame that fits just outside the slippers. Hang your daughter's original artwork in frames.
