Ideas For Bedroom Lofts

Loft with a bed

In a house where space is at a minimum, you can convert one of the spare rooms into a bedroom loft to maximize your sleeping area. A bedroom loft is ideal for siblings sharing a room. A bedroom loft is also ideal if you own a loft instead of a traditional home. A bedroom loft can provide you with the privacy that you need.

Room Dividers

Add room dividers to provide much-needed privacy for your bedroom loft. Choose ready-made room dividers with hinges as high as 6 to 8 feet to allow for some natural light into the area. Use drapes, mesh or shoji screens suspended on cables from the ceilings. The good thing about this type of room divider is that you can leave it open until company comes to visit; close the curtains and screens to hide your bed when guests arrive.

Purchase a room divider that has casters so that you can move it around. There are room dividers where one side you can put books or use as storage, while the other side is flat where you can hang photos or works of art. This type of divider provides triple duty: it provides privacy, storage and a place to display photos.

Loft Bed

Use loft beds to maximize space. Two people can share the loft bed; one can stay on top, while the other stays at the bottom. There are different styles to choose from to suit your needs. Choose a loft bed with a built-in desk and storage space, so that there is a place for studying or using a computer and for storing things. Position the loft bed against the wall or at an angle to allow the free flow of traffic. Use all corners and sides of the loft bed for maximum efficiency.

Bed up High

Put your loft bed up high. This would be ideal for a small bedroom or a studio apartment that has high ceilings. Use the upper part of the wall to build a platform or loft area using wood beams and plywood. Build or connect a ladder for easy access. Place the mattress on the platform without using any bed frame. The mattress should lie flat on top of the platform. Paint the wall red, or any color that can make the bed recede, so that it is not too overpowering. Add artistic flair by painting colorful graphics on the walls (see photo). This type of bedroom loft can maximize space by freeing up the floor space for other important things like a desk to work on or a dinette and chairs to entertain your friends.
