Ideas For Remodeling A 5x7 Bathroom

A pedestal sink saves space in a 5x7 bathroom.

A small 5x7 bathroom is only 35 square feet of space. Many older homes have a small bathroom in need of remodeling. This limited amount of area requires planning when updating the bathroom. Since this is a small area, remodeling a 5x7 bathroom is possible with a limited budget. Being creative with storage and using corners in the bathroom saves space. Also, using lights and mirrors to make the room appear larger is a good idea when remodeling a small bathroom.

Floor

Replacing the flooring in a 5x7 bathroom is a good start. Remove the old, worn-out flooring and make any necessary repairs to the subflooring. The subflooring around the toilet and bathtub may need to be replaced since these areas see the most moisture. Choose a light-colored flooring for a small bathroom. Regardless of whether you use ceramic tile, vinyl or another flooring option, the light color helps make the room appear larger.

Walls

Remodeling the walls in a 5x7 bathroom includes choosing a bright color of paint or wallpaper. Start by removing any wallpaper or border in the bathroom. Use a color such as yellow, light green or white to make the room appear larger. Placing a large mirror over the sink adds depth, making the bathroom appear larger.

Bathtub

If you plan to replace the bathtub, consider changing to a corner shower. These units take up less space than a full-sized tub. Also, installing a ceramic shower prevents moisture that forms around bathtubs. For a new bathtub, look for one that takes up a small area, possibly a claw-foot tub that stands alone.

Sink

The sink may take up a large amount of space if it is sitting on a vanity or large cabinet. Remove the old sink and vanity and replace it with a pedestal sink. These sinks have bowls that sit on top of a small, decorative pedestal and work well in any size bathroom, according to Better Homes and Gardens.

Storage

Finding places to add storage in a small bathroom is challenging. The pedestal sink makes under-the-sink storage limited. Adding storage over the toilet is a good idea. These types of cabinets offer a place to store towels and other bath accessories while conserving space.
