French Gold Bathroom Decor Ideas

Gold is a glamorous color for French bedroom decor.

The color gold is always a dramatic addition to any room. To add a touch of luxury and elegance to a dull bathroom, consider using gold to glam up the space. Gold is especially fitting for French-inspired decor. Whether the room is French provincial or extremely formal, choose a shade of gold for your bathroom in the form of window and wall treatments, fixtures, artwork and accessories that will bring this rich metallic color to the forefront.

Paint and Wallpaper

Bathrooms are typically smaller spaces, so many might feel that a plain, neutral wall color is best. However, a punch of bold color can actually add depth to the room's design. Paint all of the walls a shade of gold or simply choose a feature wall to incorporate the hue into the room's design. Instead of paint, opt for wallpaper. Wallpaper is an inexpensive addition to the space. Look for French-inspired prints, such as ornate floral patterns or even toile.

Flooring

In a bathroom, the flooring should be strong enough to withstand water and humidity, but it can also be a decorative feature in the space. It is also an area where you can incorporate the color gold. For example, choose a strong granite tile with flecks of gold throughout the stone. Choose a concrete floor and paint the room with a terrazzo treatment with subtle, but elegant gold flecks. For wood floors, paint a French emblem with gold paint, such as the fleur-de-lis.

Shower Curtains

Shower curtains are a prominent accessory in this space. It is also an area to incorporate this metallic shade. Look for fabric curtains with gold, embroidered patterns. In French design, simple materials are layered to create texture and interest. For example, lace is coupled with burlap or linens. Consider a patchwork shower curtain that uses these materials, with hints of gold fabric throughout. Also look for gold shower rods or curtain rings to further continue the gold theme.

Artwork and Accessories

Hang art on the walls to give the room a finished look. Look for pieces with gold frames or that use the color in the design. Also, use accessories, such as soap dishes, toilet paper holders or even wastebaskets to incorporate the color gold or French symbols into the design. Do not feel the need to make everything gold; in fact, careful editing to showcase your favorite gold pieces will keep the room from looking garish or overwhelming.
