Redo Bedrooms For Cheap

Redecorating on a budget can be a fun and interesting project.

If you are fed up with dated bedroom decor or you have moved into a new home and need to change ugly existing decor, your bedroom is not the relaxing place it should be. If you are constrained by a budget, you may feel you have to put up with unsightly decor, but redecorating does not have to cost a lot. There are plenty of clever, budget ways to quickly and easily give new life to the bedroom.

Instructions

1. Paint the walls. This is the quickest and easiest way to brighten up a bedroom. Magnolias and creams are usually the cheapest colors and combined with white gloss paint on the skirting boards and woodwork creates a clean, fresh look.

2. Add texture and interest to the walls with stenciling or faux paint techniques such as ragging or sponging. For a more indulgent, expensive-looking interior, use a faux marble effect. Save even more money by making your own stencils. Simply draw a basic shape such as a leaf, flower, or star onto mylar and cut it out, leaving you with a ready-to-use stencil.

3. Clean the carpet. It is often surprising just how much something as simple as a good clean can brighten up a carpet. Search thrift stores for cheap rugs to cover any worn areas. If you are lucky enough to have wood floor boards underneath the carpet, remove the carpet and sand and stain the floorboards.

4. Paint or stain an existing wood headboard. White paint will create a clean, fresh look, while a stained wood effect leans more towards a rustic-style. If you have a fabric headboard, search for end-of-line fabric that's been lowered in price, and recover the headboard. Alternatively, remove the headboard and attach a curtain pole to the ceiling above the bed. Hang material from the pole to create a dramatic backdrop.

5. Dye existing curtains and bedding for a completely new look. If these items are very worn, or in a dark color that cannot be dyed, buy cheap white curtains and bedding. This can be dyed to the desired color or jazzed up with the addition of ribbon trim, and embellishments such as sequins and buttons. This method can also be used to add a touch of luxury to cheap plain cushions.

6. Place cheap plastic storage boxes under the bed. This allows you to get rid of some of the existing furniture and create a clutter-free, minimal look. Old, tatty wood furniture can be sanded down and stained or painted. Splash out on some funky new drawer pulls for a really different look.

7. Use a hot glue gun to attach embellishments such as ribbon and sequins to existing photo frames and lampshades. Search thrift stores for small, pretty vases to put flowers in, and cheap glasses to pop tea lights in.
