Decorate A Bedroom Online

Redecorate your bedroom without moving a single piece of furniture.

A lot of decisions go into decorating a bedroom, many of which rely on one another. You can save yourself a lot of effort moving dressers and a lot of money buying sheets and curtains if you plan your decoration before you begin. Virtual bedroom decorating programs let you change your mind again and again.

Instructions

1. Access a virtual bedroom decorating program on the Internet that uses a room plan similar to your own. Lowes, Better Homes and Gardens, Armstrong and Creating Your Space all provide bedroom decorating software.

2. Choose colors fitting for a bedroom in the "Walls" section of the program. The wall is the most prominent part of the room and will affect your overall impression of the room. Cool and neutral colors--such as mint green, beige, lavender and gray--have a calming effect, which is what you want in the room where you sleep. If the program permits patterns on the walls, choose small patterns if your room is small and large patterns if it's large so that the pattern is proportionate to the room.

3. Choose a new flooring for your bedroom in the "Floor" section. Wood floors are ideal if you have allergies, because they provide less surface area for allergens like dust mites to hide. Experiment with different types of carpeting and area rugs, in keeping with the color requirements in Step 2.

4. Click on the bed and drag it to position it in different parts of the room that will allow you to sleep soundly. Keep it away from doors, walls and windows that produce a lot of noise during your sleeping hours. See how the bed looks with just the head against the wall and with the left and right sides each against a wall.

5. Position your nightstand, dressers and other furniture in different places in relation to your bed. Be sure to leave enough room to walk and access all areas of your bedroom easily.

6. Click the color options on the program to change the colors on each item in the room. Use the "Furniture" tools to replace your current furniture or add more to the bedroom. Get as many decorating ideas as you can.

7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 until you achieve a design you like. Save the final image or make note the key features and buy the items necessary to achieve it.
