Master Bedroom Colors

Neutral colors like gray match with a number of master bedroom furniture accents.

Relaxed, inspired and passionate are just some of the things you want to experience when you walk into your master bedroom. Some of the best colors for your master bedroom are those that fit your decorative personality and make this area of your home the customized "getaway" you desire. Hue choices for a master bedroom should also include those that work well with a number of color schemes if you like to change the look of the room often.

Black and White

Black and white is the ultimate color contrast and is growing in popularity as a master bedroom color scheme. Wooden furniture painted black, like a dresser or chest of drawers, gives the room classic style that can be updated with accents like painted white stripes. Creating an accent wall using stencils of flowers or trees painted in black and white is a noticeable feature in the room that offers a contrast amid solid black or white furniture. According to the Your Home Only Better website, a splash of bright color in a black and white room (i.e. cherry red floral arrangements or a cobalt blue lamp) is a popular home decor trend for 2011.

Shades of Purple

Purple is the color of royalty, and lighter shades evoke feelings of romance and nostalgia. Eggplant or aubergine pairs well with metallics like silver or bronze; paint the accent wall in the master bedroom dark purple, and use silver paint for the paneling. Accent the purple comforter on the bed with large bronze throw pillows for an elegant look. Silver mirrors or artwork against a lavender or lilac wall gives the room a feminine feel with a contemporary touch. Violet was a popular bedroom color choice for 2009 and 2010 according to Decorator Secrets.com; in the coming years, smaller purple accents, like flower arrangements or portraits featuring lavender blooms and lilacs, are ideal for including purple in the master bedroom.

Greens

Natural or farm-inspired shades are once again becoming the main colors in home decor as they were in the 1970s. Green, which represents tranquility as well as life and harmony, will make the master bedroom a welcoming haven of relaxation. Invigorating shades like neon or Kelly green can be used for the accent wall; decorate the rest of the room with dark wooden furniture or silver throw pillows or rugs so the green will stand out. A softer shade of green like pistachio or sea foam green will complement white furniture well. Prints that feature light green and white, like gingham or argyle, on pillows or curtains will bring the color scheme of the room together.

Browns

Many people choose brown as their main master bedroom shade because the color naturally promotes contentment and comfort. Light browns like beige and tan on the walls go well with pastel furniture accents like a lavender chaise or cream colored arm chair. Dark or chocolate browns can be paired with bronze-painted wall paneling and khaki blinds for a monochromatic look. Subdued colors like powder blue or dusty rose complement a brown master bedroom as well; the color will also work well in the vanity or bathroom area to make the bathroom and bedrooms areas appear more uniform.
