Update The Hardware On A Bedroom Armoire

Replacing the hardware on a bedroom armoire is a quick way to give it an update. New hardware runs the budgetary gamut. If you are replacing only one or two knobs or handles, you can choose to splurge on stylish, high-end pieces that perhaps you couldn't otherwise afford. Or if your armoire has drawers and doors, and therefore more hardware to replace, you can find economical but modern pieces that provide an inexpensive new look. The most crucial thing when choosing new hardware is to be sure it will fit in the same holes as the previous hardware.

Instructions

Hardware With One Bolt

1. Choose new hardware that mounts with just one bolt to avoid drilling another hole in your armoire.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the bolt that holds the old hardware onto the armoire, and lift the hardware off.

3. Insert the bolt that came with your new hardware into the hole, and screw the new knob or handle onto it.

4. Use your screwdriver to hold the bolt steady, and give your hardware a final turn to be sure it is not wobbly.

Hardware With Two Bolts

5. Use a screwdriver to remove the old hardware.

6. Take a piece of the hardware to the store with you to choose your new hardware, which must have the same space between the bolts.

7. Find some hardware you like, and compare the spacing of the bolts with your old hardware. If necessary, measure each piece from the center of one bolt to the center of the other to be sure they're the same.

8. Place your new handle over the holes in the armoire, and screw the bolts into it. Turn them first with your hand, and use a screwdriver to tighten them.
