Blue Bathroom Design Ideas

A blue-walled bathroom

Blue is a popular color for bathrooms, and it is easy to see why. Blue comes in a huge variety of shades, and many styles can be achieved by choosing or mixing different hues of blue. To start designing your blue bathroom, choose your favorite shade of blue and then choose a theme that fits the color.

Spa Look

For many, the ultimate wish is to have a bathroom much like that of a high-class spa--calming, minimalistic and stylish. Blue is well-known as a calming, cool color. To give your blue bathroom a spa look, choose décor and accessories that are in the aqua blue family of hues. Light teal, pale turquoise and aquamarine are good choices that will give your bathroom the look and feel of a world-class spa.

Balance the blue with crisp white. If you want to paint your bathroom walls, choose white or light aquamarine. To complete your spa look, display crisp, white folded towels on a ceramic blue platter or blue woven basket. Buy decorative or miniature-sized guest soaps and put them in a transparent glass or ceramic bowl on the bathroom counter.

You can also place a trio of candles in shades of aqua blue on the counter or on the side of your tub if it has a sitting area. If you would like to hang art in your blue, spa-themed bathroom choose a print that reflects nature, such as a photograph of a jungle, drawing of a snowy mountain or a painting of a vast lake.

Regal Blue Décor

If your bathroom is a darker shade of blue, or you would like to use darker blues to decorate, you should consider going for a regal look. Deep blues such as royal, navy and midnight blue are rich and add a royal feel to any room. In the bathroom, pair your chosen hue of deep blue with gold, amber, bronze or deep yellow. To balance these bold shades, make sure you add touches of ivory, cream or off-white.

If you are able to choose the color of your bathroom tile and walls, consider getting deep blue tiles against a deep yellow background. Paired with an array of color-coordinated towels on a gold or bronze rack, a golden-hued shower curtain and a deep blue window valance with hints of gold, your tile and wall will pull your regal bathroom look together.

Nautical Look

Nautical décor is fun and trendy, and blue is essential to achieve this style. For your nautical look, you will have a palette of three colors: cherry red, crisp white and blue. The blue you choose should be primary blue or navy blue, not a pale or blue-green shade of blue. Place a replica ship in a bottle on the counter or a painting of a ship or anchor on the wall to add to the nautical theme. Stripes always go well with a nautical décor, and you can add them in the form of towels, window treatments or wall paint.

Instead of red or white accessories, choose blue ones for your nautical theme. A weathered blue vase, blue ceramic soap dish and tumbler, or blue bath rug are appropriate options. Make sure to balance out the red, white and blue with an accent of silver or gold. You should only use one metallic color in a nautical-themed bathroom. If you have silver fixtures, go with silver accents. The same rule applies if you have gold fixtures.
