Decorate A Bedroom Window Seat

Window seats take advantage of wasted space beneath windows. They can also provide seating in the bedroom without taking up floor space. This is particularly beneficial in a small bedroom that doesn't have room for freestanding chairs. Whether the bedroom has a bay window or a regular window with a seat, adding some style to the area makes it a focal point in the bedroom. A cushion and some additional decorative elements make the window seat both visually pleasing and functional.

Instructions

1. Choose a color scheme for the bedroom window seat area. Consider the existing colors in the bedroom. If you want the window seat to serve as a focal point, choose a color that stands out while complementing the other colors in the room.

2. Consider the overall decorating style of the bedroom. Stick with the same style of decorating for the window seat decor. If the rest of the bedroom has a relaxing spa feel, you wouldn't want to put a bright funky pattern on the window seat. Keep the style in mind as you select the decorating elements.

3. Measure the length and depth of the window seat if you plan to add a seat cushion. Options for window seat cushions include purchasing a pre-made cushion from a department or furniture store, having a custom seat made by a seamstress or making your own cushion seat by covering foam with fabric.

4. Add accent pillows along the window seat. Arrange them along the back of the seat or near the ends. Use the same kind of accent pillows for the bed and the window seat to connect the two areas.

5. Drape a cozy throw blanket on the window seat for a casual, welcoming touch. You can also add other accents such as stuffed animals, artificial rose petals or artificial vines along the back of the seat. Consider the overall style when choosing accents.

6. Top off the window seat with coordinating drapes. Choose a set of drapes that complements the window seat decor without overpowering it. For instance, choose one of the lighter colors from the window seat palette for the drapes.
