Arrange A Small Bedroom

Make the most of a small bedroom space.

If you have a lot of bedroom furniture and not a lot of space to display it in, make the most out of every nook and cranny. With a little creativity, you can design a bedroom that looks cozy instead of cluttered. If you are downsizing to a smaller apartment, bring only your favorite and necessary bedroom furniture items with you and sell or store the rest. If you are buying new furniture, consider clear Lucite pieces, which will take up less visual space than traditional wood items.

Instructions

1. Place the bed against a wall to save floor space. Hang a large antique mirror above the bed in place of a traditional headboard; the mirror is useful and will make the space appear larger. Cover the bed with a comforter or quilt that coordinates with the overall look of the room as it will become the room's focal point. Avoid a bed that is too big, as it can shrink the look of the space.

2. Use a small wooden chest as a storage space as well as an extra seating element. Place the chest at the end of the bed and cover it with a comfortable cushion.

3. Set tall vertical dressers and armoires against the walls; tall pieces maximize storage while taking up minimal floor space. Store a dresser inside a large walk-in closet if the room features one.

4. Fill in a corner space with small, plush chair. Place a tall standing lamp featuring a built-in table next to the chair to create a convenient and comfortable reading nook.

5. Hang a television on a wall opposite the bed rather than placing it on a table or stand on the ground. Install wall shelves to hold DVDs, CDs, books and collectibles.
