Master Bedroom Ideas

A master bedroom with seating area

Decorating a master bedroom can be fun, but it can also be difficult to know where to begin. Some get overwhelmed by the amount of choices regarding colors, decorating styles, furniture, and decor that are available for master bedrooms. If you start by considering a few key areas, decorating your master bedroom will be a smoother, enjoyable task.

Seating Areas

Seating areas look wonderful in master bedrooms and truly give them a distinctive style. Depending upon how large the room is, you can add different types of seating furniture such as a chaise, small couch or love seat, a recliner, or attractive chairs and pedestal tables. A seating area are especially impressive in a master bedroom that has a fireplace. No matter what the size of your bedroom, pull the look of your seating area together with a small rug, and make sure that the seating is facing away from the bed.

Consider a window seat. Window seats are functional and add visual interest to a room, and are especially useful if you enjoy reading or looking outdoors.

Colors

Certain colors have become known as being better suited for master bedrooms than others. The reason is that the bedroom should have a relaxing atmosphere, since it is where you rest, refresh, and unwind. Certain colors evoke relaxation, while others can be overstimulating.

Soothing colors include deep tones, shades of blue, white, and silver. Colors that can overstimulate include oranges, reds, bright greens such as lime, yellows, bright gold, and vibrant pinks. You can use these colors in your master bedroom, but limit them so that the space remains relaxing.

Consider cobalt blue, burgundy, and silver; teal, chocolate brown, ivory, and tan; black, white, pink, and gold; cornflower blue, white, and sunny yellow; sage green, lavender, mocha, and white; gray, red, white, and black; aqua blue and cream.

Storage

There are many options for storage in a master bedroom. One commonly used option is wall shelving. Wall shelves can be in the form on a single piece of mounted wood, wall-mounted cubicles, and even tiered corner shelves.

You can also choose a headboard that comes with built-in storage shelves, tiers, or drawers. Bookcases are another storage option for master bedrooms, and they are moderately-priced. Nowadays, you can find a bookshelf to perfectly fit any decor, and in a wide variety of materials such as brushed metal, wood and durable colored plastic.

When planning fit storage into your master bedroom, consider using furniture that doubles as storage. For example, put a hope or storage chest at the foot of your bed that is also decorative, or a bed frame that has a hidden under-bed drawer.
