Choose Carpet For Bedrooms

Choosing new carpet can be a fun, exciting activity.

If you want carpeting in your bedroom, rather than another surface, such as hardwood floors, you have some decisions that need to be make about carpeting. Carpeting an entire room can be a large investment for many families, but it can also provide advantages that other flooring options don't, such as a softer feel while walking or more color options for the decor of the room. You'll also need to factor in durability, cost and the look and feel of the carpet.

Instructions

1. Browse many different carpet stores before choosing carpet for your bedroom. There are going to be several options. Borrow carpet samples from stores. Any time you think a carpet might work well in your bedroom, get a sample. Write down where you got it from, the price and details from the product description.

2. Pay attention to the pile of the carpets. Pile determines the look of the carpet, how it feels and how easy it is to clean. Carpets with a heavy pile weight are stronger and more durable. A longer pile height means the carpet is softer and more elegant looking but tougher to clean.

3. Choose a carpeting fiber. Most carpets are made out of synthetics like nylon and olefin, which are cheaper than a natural fiber like wool. Synthetic fibers can also be created with specific purposes, such as moisture resistance, while natural fibers are sometimes preferred for their comfortable touch.

4. Research styles of carpeting. Multilevel loop carpeting, for example, is more textured and can be hard to vacuum. Berber carpet is thicker, which means it can snag. Level loop carpet is durable and good for high-traffic areas but might not have the look you want. Finally, cut-pile carpet is soft and thick but can hold onto dirt.

5. Factor the price of the carpet into your decision. Some carpets can cost as little as $12 per square yard. However, you can also find common carpet fibers that are $60 per square yard or more.

6. Consider the cleaning process. Some carpets, such as triexa, are stain resistant, while others, such as olefin, are designed to prevent mildew. Fibers, such as polyester keep their color longer, giving the carpet longevity. The longer the pile is, the harder it is to clean since there is more space for dirt to get trapped inside the carpet. This can also contribute to allergies.
