Solutions For A Temporary Bedroom In The Basement

A few simple decorating and home design tips can turn your basement into a bedroom.

If you need to make the most of all the space in your home for a period of time, it may be necessary to convert the basement into a bedroom. There are several ways to do this that are easy on your budget and can add more value to your home in the long run.

Size

The size of the basement will dictate how much bedroom furniture will fit in the space, so be sure to choose items that won't make the space look cluttered. A twin or full-sized bed will usually fit comfortably in a small basement, but you may also be able to add furniture like a dresser or chest of drawers in a larger basement space to make clothing storage easier.

Types

Since the basement bedroom will be temporary, it's a good idea to choose furniture that can be used in more than one way. For instance, a futon that can be folded into a sofa is a viable solution in the basement, since the furniture can be used for seating in the daytime and folded into a bed at night. And, after the basement is no longer a bedroom, the futon can still serve as practical basement decor.

Considerations

If your basement can be converted into a bedroom simply by adding bedroom furniture or adding more lighting to the space, this makes an attractive selling point when selling your home. Storing other furniture in the basement such as a pool table or large television in the space will also give potential buyers the impression that the basement can be converted to another type of space, as well.
