Bachelor Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Create a unique bedroom environment that suits your lifestyle.

As a bachelor, you may have a hard time figuring out what type of decor will work best in your bedroom. Since you have complete control over the look and style of your home, you can choose a theme that best suits your taste and lifestyle and turn your bedroom into a fun, inviting environment that also speaks to your personality.

Colors

For the most versatility, keep your color scheme neutral and use accessories to add a pop of color. Neutral doesn't have to mean boring, either. You can add colorful curtains, art or a surprising accent piece without the room seeming busy or overdone. Choose a darker, slightly more masculine theme if you feel it suits your personal tastes.

Fabrics

Always choose fabrics based on your lifestyle. If you are going for a luxurious feel, choose a supple leather or suede and high-quality bed linens and curtains. If you are going for a more lived-in look or are on a budget, stick with cotton and basic upholstery fabric but don't skimp on low-quality bed linens. Use pillow shams for a finished look, and skip the throw pillows if you think they're too fussy.

Furniture

Furniture with clean lines will grow with you over time, and can coordinate with a variety of color schemes. At a minimum, invest in a bed with a headboard, night stands, a dresser and a place to sit. A comfortable chair will come in handy, but a bench for the foot of the bed is an excellent choice. Place lamps on each night stand, and equip them with dimmers or three-way bulbs for softer lighting.

Themes

As a bachelor, you can proudly display memorabilia, art or any other accessories you like. If you have a favorite hobby or sports team, integrate elements into your design. Use frames and shadow boxes to keep your items from becoming damaged and to keep the room feeling age-appropriate. However, focus the design elements. It's still a bedroom, so keep games and gadgets from encroaching into the space meant for sleep.
