Master Bedroom Remodeling Ideas

The master bedroom is an important part of any home. It is the place where you go to unwind after a long, hard day--a place of your own. So it is important that your master bedroom is a reflection of you and your personality. There are many ways to remodel your bedroom as well as the furnishings you put in it. So decide on a concept and a color theme, and then let your creativity come to life.

Structure of the Room

The master bedroom is not complete without a master bathroom. If your master bedroom does not have a bathroom attached to it, adding one would not only add to your personal benefit, but to the end value of your home's worth. Also, a large walk-in closet is essential when remodeling a master bedroom. The more storage available in the master bedroom, the easier it will be to keep it free of clutter and excess pieces of furniture. Plus, it will be a great selling point if you ever sell your home.

Wall Color and Flooring

The color of the room depends greatly on the concept you will be decorating around. If you want to achieve an ocean/beach look, colors of the ocean and sand are ideal. The color of the walls should always contrast, yet complement, the color of the floors (whether it be carpet or hardwood). If the paint on the walls is dark, choose a lighter color for the flooring. If the paint on the walls is lighter in color, install darker flooring. This will allow each to stand out on its own without overpowering the other.

Furnishings

When choosing furnishings for your bedroom, choose pieces that are functional yet stylish. It is also important to place items into your room that fit properly. If your bedroom only has enough square footage for a queen-size bed then don't squeeze a king-size bed into the space. This will make your room look smaller and more cluttered than it actually is. If your bedroom does not have a walk-in closet, be creative with your storage options. For example, use the space under the bed for drawer space. There are many styles of bed frames available with drawers underneath. Find bedding that goes with the theme of your room and also complements the wall and floor colors. Place a long blanket chest at the end of the bed to use as a seat while putting on shoes. This also will give you additional space for extra blankets and pillows. To add to the theme of your room, purchase or make your own drapes; find a fabric that is warm and inviting but also matches the rest of the bedroom. Accessorize with art, wall shelves, lamps and personal items, to make your room feel more like you.
