Measure How Many Square Feet My Dining Room Is

Measure your dining room before making large purchases or remodeling.

Almost any home dining room will benefit from new carpet, paint or furniture. Before you start buying supplies, though, you need to find the square footage of the room. Most dining rooms are either square, rectangular or triangular. The formula used to find the square footage of your dining room depends on the shape of the room. Once you know the room's size, start shopping for the perfect dining room furniture or flooring.

Instructions

1. Pull all objects in your dining room away from the walls. Do not try to measure around them; you might not get accurate results.

2. Measure the length of the room using a tape measure. Record the number. Measure the width of the dining room, and write down that number, as well.

3. Multiply the width of the room by the length to get the square footage for rectangular and square rooms.

4. Divide the result by two if you want the square footage of a triangular room.
