Make A Dining Room Entry

The entrance into the dining room should make a strong statement.

Having a well-defined entry gives a dining space more emphasis. There are creative ways to call attention to the dining room doorway that are very visually appealing. The home's architectural style must be taken into account during the design phase, however. A very elegant home calls for an elegant entry into the dining room. High-tech features of a modern house should be incorporated into the dining room doorway opening as well. Through the ages, the dining room has remained a very special part of any house. Giving it special details and attention should attract any potential future buyers.

Instructions

1. Create an entry with French doors. Use the doors as a boundary between the dining room and living room, for example. Create the entry as a visual focal point for the room. Install a wall of fixed French doors with only one operable door. Use double French doors as another option. Install crown molding and appropriate wood trim to add elegance to the entry.

2. Build the entry with an arched doorway opening. Use no closing door. Create the archway to define the dining space from another adjacent room or hallway. Draw attention to the archway with wood trim or small lights installed in the house framework across the underside of the arch.

3. Use premade posts or columns on each side of the entry. Open the wall on each side from waist-high level to the ceiling. Install a formal wooden column reaching from the half-wall to the ceiling on each side.

4. Create a wall on each side of the entry from glass blocks. Construct an 8-foot wall that is about 4 feet wide on either side of a 6-foot wide doorway opening. Use this method to add some additional light to a dining room with a small window, for example.

5. Hang cafe doors to create semi-privacy. Buy short doors with raised panels or louvered panels to install on swinging-door hinges. Install cafe doors if you want privacy between the kitchen the dining space. Hang these doors to separate a front hallway from a formal dining space as well.
