Suitable Colors For A Teen'S Bedroom

A variation of pastel shades makes a pretty bedroom color palette.

Your teen's bedroom is the one place in the home where she can express her decorative creativity and showcase the colors she likes best. Whether your teenager wants to remodel her room, or wants to choose a completely new bedroom color scheme for the home you're moving to, combinations of bright hues, or a pairing of vivid and neutral shades, will help to make the bedroom especially attractive.

Black, White and Color

A black and white color palette allows your teen to easily add a pop of bright color to the space without it being too overpowering. Painting the accent wall black and adding splashes of white paint, or vice versa, can serve as the room's feature that matches with any accent color. A basic hue scheme like black and white also means your teenager can make small but noticeable, affordable changes to her room decor often. For instance, a black and white striped comforter accented with hot pink pillows is attractive; by adding cobalt blue curtains and an area rug and replacing the pink pillows with blue, the bedroom is immediately updated.

Gray and Neon

The subtle nature of gray pairs well with neon shades like lime green, turquoise, cobalt blue or electric purple. This color combination also allows your teen to make slight decorative changes to change the look of the room. For instance, if your teen son chooses bright green and medium gray for his bedroom, painting the walls gray and adding green artwork to the accent wall is fitting. Adding lime green curtains or a tall floor lamp in bright green helps to bring the color scheme together. However, if he later decides to feature blue in the room with gray, spray painting the lamp blue and replacing the green curtains with cobalt blue ones will still complement the gray hue and add brightness to the room.

Blue and Green

The blue and green color combination is ideal for a teen who prefers a cool color scheme, or a bedroom with a land and water theme. For instance, paint the top half of the accent wall sea foam green and let your teen use stencils in the shape of waves to create a blue wave pattern at the bottom of the wall. Paint the remaining walls a classic white shade, and accent the bed with a Kelly or grass green comforter and light blue pillows. A patterned area rug in blue and green polka dots or paisley adds more texture to the space while sticking to the color scheme.

Pink and Purple

Both pastel and vivid shades of pink and purple can make a teen girl's bedroom sophisticated and refined, or upbeat and eye-catching. For instance, a bedroom painted in an ivory color is the perfect canvas for lilac and rose pink decor, like a light pink vanity, a lavender-colored desk and a soft pink canopy for the bed. These pastel shades are also light enough that either one is suitable for painting the entire room if your teen prefers more color in the space. Hot pink and neon purple shades work well in a room painted white. Colorful accents like wall paneling in bright pink and furniture like a neon purple chaise over a fluorescent pink area rug are attractive and vibrant, and will match the fuchsia comforter or vividly purple bed your teen has chosen well.
