Decorate A Western Bedroom

A cowboy hat can make excellent decor for a western bedroom.

For those that love cowboys, horses and anything having to do with the western lifestyle, a similarly themed bedroom can be a perfect fit. Surrounding yourself with western items as you search for bedroom décor can be almost as much fun as the finished product. No matter what your budget, decorating your western themed bedroom the way you wish is possible even when working with a budget.

Instructions

1. Choose a color scheme. Colors along the lines of browns and neutrals can work well in a western bedroom, however, red and blue are also good colors to incorporate into the design. They can add a punch of color when you do not want the room a completely dark or neutral color scheme.

2. Choose a wall design. Several types of wall designs can help you create your western bedroom. Wood paneling or painting it a solid color can work well, however another option is to choose a wall mural that you can put on one or more walls. There are wall murals that have horses, mountains or even those that gives the illusion of a wood covered wall.

3. Hang wall accessories. You can include paintings of western scenes, such as those of horses, but there are other western themed décor options as well. Consider hanging stars, horseshoes and even cowboy hats on the wall. The more authentic the better, so look around at garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores or through online auction sites for items that have some wear to them and are not brand new looking.

4. Redesign your current items. If you or cannot afford to buy many new items for your bedroom, redesigning them is a great way to save some money. For example, for the dresser drawers, contemplate buying faux leather and, by using contact adhesive, adhering it to the drawer fronts. Consider also changing the knobs on the drawers to something more rustic. Another option is to purchase faux cowhide and make new pillows for your bed. Simply take two squares of the material that is slightly larger in size than the pillows and sew the pieces together around the pillow. Little changes can mean a drastic change in appearance, but for much less money then having to buy all new items.

5. Choose natural wood furniture. It can look best in the western bedroom, especially when combined with the other colors in the room. Consider purchasing log future, which can give a more rustic, natural feel to the room.
