Cool Bedrooms For Kids

Your child will have sweet dreams in a cool bedroom design.

Bring your child's imagination to life by turning their dream bedroom into a reality. By adding a few coats of paint and dressing up items you may already have around the house, you can redecorate your child's plain bedroom into a fantasy getaway space just for them. Whether your child is a princess or a pop-star, you can find a cool bedroom theme that is sure to please.

Princess Castle

Turn your child's bedroom into a suite fit for a princess. If you are artsy, paint a mural of a castle on the wall behind the bed or turn a picture of a castle from the Internet into a large, wall-size poster using a free site such as Rasterbater. Adorn the bed with princess-themed, pink sheets, pillow cases and comforters. Add decorative touches such as a princess lamp and a gold mirror on the wall.

Rock 'n' Roll

Music lovers will enjoy a Rock 'n' Roll-themed bedroom. Search antiques stores for old 45 records or album covers and adhere to one wall. Paint musical notes and treble clefs onto the tops of the walls as a room border. Hang musical-themed curtains or valences over the windows and add fun bedding such as black and white polka dot comforters and pillows. Hang framed posters of your child's favorite pop stars on the walls. Adorn tables and shelves with toy instruments.

Hollywood

Transform your child's bedroom into a star-studded bedroom fit for a diva. Paint the walls a muted lilac, peach or pink. Paint the desk, chairs and chest of drawers in a complimentary color and adorn with glitter, rhinestone studs and crystal knobs. Stamp gold stars onto the frames around windows, mirrors and door-jambs. Purchase a lighted-vanity mirror for the top of a dresser or hang vanity bath strip lights, available at home improvement stores, above the dressers and other furniture. Create a canopy above the bed with tulle or satin. Hang movie posters on the walls and set a free-standing mirror in a corner. And, of course, add a star with your child's name, to the bedroom door.

Bedroom Gardens

Bring the outside in by designing a garden in your child's bedroom. Hang a canopy of tulle or netting over the bed and tie rosettes and silk roses into the canopy. Use pretty ribbon or twine to hold the canopy in place. Add floral wallpaper or paint a garden motif on one wall of the room preferably behind the bed. Add silk plants and flowers in containers throughout the room. Lay a green throw rug on the floor. Hang paper lanterns from the ceiling. Add a small table and chairs for your child to have a tea-party in her garden.

Race Car Room

Design a race car track for your racing fan right in his own bedroom. Pain the tops of walls a royal or celestial blue and paint the bottom part of the wall white. Create a checkered flag effect to the bottom of the walls by adding black squares in a checkered pattern to the white area of the walls. Add a race track to the ceiling by painting a wide grey track with white dotted lines within. Paint the chest of drawers a bright, glossy red to resemble a large tool box. Add black and white valences to the windows and decorate the walls with photos of race cars.
