Simple & Inexpensive Ways To Decorate Your Dining Room Table

Sometimes, simple decorations are best when it comes to a dining room table. You can go traditional with the table, such as with a formal place setting, or you can decorate it with napkins, flowers and fun colors when not in use. You do not have to break the bank when you decorate your dining room table. You can find practical and attractive items in dollar and discount stores.

Napkins

Purchase napkin rings and napkins to decorate your dining room table. Simply pull the napkin through the ring and either lay or stand it at each place setting. This is a elegant but quick way to decorate your dining room table while not in use. Napkin rings come in silver, gold or ceramic (with a variety of color choices). Do not limit yourself to white napkins. Add color with salmon, yellow, blue or a color to match the walls or molding trim in the room. Change the napkins and rings depending on the holiday. For instance, for Christmas you can use green napkins with red rings on the table.

Add a centerpiece that matches the color of the napkin rings in the middle of the table. A silver candelabra, for example, will match your silver napkin rings. In 2009, you could purchase a set of six napkin rings along with a set of six napkins for as little as $20 to $40.

Taper Candles

Dripless taper candles are a simple yet attractive way to decorate your dining room table, whether it is being readied for a meal or not in use. The dripless ones will protect your table from being damaged by hot wax. Choose a color scheme (two or three colors) that will work with your current dining room décor. You can also go with a simple theme, like black and white (or ivory) taper candles. Purchase candles in your desired colors in various heights--tall (12 to 18 inches), medium and short (under 6 inches). Purchase holders as well (silver or gold).

Place the candles in height order from the middle of the dining room table outward. Start with the tallest at the center and use them again at the heads of the table. When you have guests or are enjoying a quiet evening at home, light the candles to help set the mood. Candles can be purchased at your local dollar store. For less than $15, you could have a complete set of candles and holders for your table.

Plants

If you are looking for a place to store the plants in your home, the dining room table is an ideal location. The key is to transfer the plants into more attractive pots. Purchase decorative planters. You will be able to find stainless steel ones and others that are more artistic (ceramics). Position one large plant at the middle and two smaller plants on either side. Mix and match the plant and planter colors for a bright and vivid display or stick with the same color plant with a stainless steel planter for a more traditional look. You could find these planters at discount stores for less than $10 each.
