Arrange A Full & Twin Bed In A Bedroom

Avoid traditional methods when arranging beds of different sizes.

Forget traditional methods of arranging two beds in a room when they differ in size. Perfect symmetry is not attainable when one bed is a twin and the other a full. Instead, use more creative placement of the beds, other furniture pieces and accents to create cohesion between the beds and lots of personality in the decor.

Instructions

1. Place the heads of the twin and full beds against the same wall or against two adjoining walls, leaving several feet of space between the beds. Lay a large area rug on the floor between them to visually anchor the beds in the space.

2. Position a single large piece of furniture between the two beds instead of using one or two nightstands. For example, share a dresser, bookcase or chest of drawers between the beds to minimize the visual difference in the bed's sizes. Place a corner desk or cabinet in the corner between beds positioned on adjoining walls. Or, create a seating area between the beds with comfortable chairs and a reading lamp. Use a small bench or an ottoman instead if space is tight.

3. Place nightstands or small tables on the opposite sides of the beds if needed and if space allows. These do not have to match each other or the other furniture. Include convenient items on their tops, such as alarm clocks, lamps and storage boxes or baskets for personal items.

4. Achieve cohesion between the sleeping areas with matching bed covers and window coverings. Or, select two different colors for the bed covers and repeat both those colors in the window treatments. Individualize the areas with contrasting accent pillows. Use wall art and accessories to further personalize each space.
