Why buy art when you have a budding artist living right under your roof?
While most parents may wish they could give their little girl a palace to live in, most of us can't afford a palace, let alone an expensively decorated room. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to brighten up any girl's bedroom that will please her and may even fit your budget.
Paint the Walls
Paint is an inexpensive way to add character to a room--no matter whom you're decorating for. Take the girl of honor out to choose a color. She may well pick a much brighter color than you want on the walls, but explain that it will come out darker once it's painted on; this way, you can probably convince her to go with a lighter, more agreeable shade. Use this color to determine your entire decorating scheme.
Use Simple Patterns
Cartoon characters will go out of vogue, and she will outgrow them before you know it. Simple patterns such as stripes and polka dots are more practical design themes that will remain relevant as she grows, saving you money in the long run.
Make Your Own Wall Art
Go to the craft store, get some paint, brushes and canvasses and bring out your inner-Picasso. Let your girl in on the action, too. This is such an inexpensive option that you can change the art often. It's also an enjoyable activity that you can share together.
Dress Up the Dresser
Rather than buying brand new furniture, make what you have work. A simple way of doing this is finding a wallpaper pattern that fits your decorating scheme and refinishing just the face of the dresser drawers. You can also replace the drawer knobs for just a few dollars, and the dresser can take on the look of an entirely different dresser.
