Use glass lanterns as decorative accents in your Moroccan-inspired bedroom.
Turn your bedroom into an oasis by decorating it with a Moroccan theme. Your bedroom is your own personal space within your home, a place where you can not only sleep, but where you can retreat to for rest and relaxation away from the rest of the family. A Moroccan decor features exotic colors, eye-catching patterns and eclectic furnishings to give your bedroom a romantic, relaxing feeling, transporting you to a world away.
Instructions
1. Paint the walls of your bedroom one of the vibrant colors so often seen in Moroccan decor. Colors to consider include curry, saffron, turquoise or bright purple. To avoid overwhelming the space with color, making it busy instead of restful, paint only one wall the chosen color, and paint the remaining walls a neutral tone.
2. Add decorative accents to the wall you painted in Step 1. Alternately, use gold paint to create small geometric images on the wall.
3. Select ornate furnishings in a dark finish, such as cherry or mahogany. Also, consider a bed frame that features decorative carvings. Ideal options are a dresser, a wardrobe and night tables that are also made of dark wood and feature detailed carvings.
4. Suspend brightly colored textiles from the ceiling above your bed, creating a canopy effect. Silk, satin, organza and fabricated materials are ideal options.
5. Cover the floor with colorful, plush decorative rugs that are pleasing to the eye and the feet.
6. Make the bed with white, high-thread count sheets and a comforter, and place a colorful throw blanket and throw pillows on the bed. Or place a large fabric-covered ottoman at the foot of the bed that can function as a place to lounge.
7. Use decorative accessories to add details to the theme. Hang antiqued glass lanterns from the ceiling, or set them out on the dresser or bedside tables. Display brass genie-styled bottles on floating wall shelves. Place wicker baskets on the floor to hold extra pillows and blankets.
