Teapots are functional and decorative.
Antique teapots add a Victorian or country ambiance to a dining room when used as decor. Whether you collect vintage teapots or they're heirlooms from your ancestors, using them in the correct manner adds an old-fashioned charm to the setting. Teapots range in price from very expensive to those that cost only a few dollars. They may be whimsical or elegant and come in a plethora of patterns, styles and colors.
Instructions
1. Spread a vintage tablecloth on your dining room table. Use a country, Victorian print or a white or pastel tablecloth with lace or scalloped edging.
2. Place doilies or a lace table runner on any occasional tables or shelves in the dining room. This adds to the cozy, intimate atmosphere and draws attention to the teapots.
3. Remove the lid from a teapot and fill the container with fresh or silk flowers to use as a centerpiece on the dining room table. Set a short, wide vase inside the teapot to use for fresh flowers and water. Alternatively, insert a piece of florist foam in the bottom to add silk flowers. Cut them to the correct heights with a pair of wire cutters.
4. Display your antique teapots in a china cabinet, or on a buffet or an occasional table. If you place them on china cabinet shelves, put teapots that are color-coordinated or have the same theme -- such as flowers -- along one shelf. Vary the heights of the teapots, but place the tallest one in the center of the shelf or the middle of the table. This provides a focal point for the display.
5. Set a teapot and matching cups and saucers on a tea cart in one corner of your dining room. This creates a setting that looks like you're about to host a tea party.
