Decorate Bathrooms With Beadboard

Spruce up your bathroom with beadboard decor.

Create a cottage-themed bathroom with beadboard. Beadboard paneling is defined by its vertical, closely abutted strips which are usually about an inch wide. Choose from a variety of beadboards for your bathroom decorating project, including pine, oak, fir, cedar and MDF varieties of varying thicknesses. Beadboard installation is the opposite of complex: Tongue-and-groove panel edges snap together to create a seamless facade. Advantages of beadboard in the bathroom include its wipeability and resistance to wear and tear.

Instructions

1. Create beadboard wainscoting around the lower half of your room, or cover all the walls with the slatted wood paneling; the vertical panels will visually increase the size of a bathroom with a low ceiling. Install the beadboard horizontally to make the room look larger.

2. Put up a beadboard backsplash above your sink area to protect the walls from water damage.

3. Line the interior of your bathroom vanity with beadboard, or cover the front of its door or the paneling on the door in beadboard. Line the back of any open or storage shelves with beadboard.

4. Build a beadboard partition to create privacy around a bathing or toilet area. Frame your partition in wood and then cover it with beadboard and two coats of paint.

5. Paint your beadboard red, blue or apply a light stain to match a country cottage interior design. Paint the beadboard white or cream to match your bathroom's beach cottage d cor.

6. Build bathroom accessories from beadboard, such as a wastebasket, create a lid for an open basket, cut out a frame for a mirror or make a small shelf. Use the beadboard as you would any wood of similar thickness for these projects.
