Seal your bathroom sink fixture with silicone caulk.
Installing a new bathroom sink often involves placing the unit over a countertop. The exposed seam needs to be sealed properly to prevent mold, grime and other contaminants from forming as a result of constant exposure to running water and moisture. Silicone caulk serves as an airtight, waterproof sealant for household surfaces, and is commonly used to seal bathroom and kitchen applications. Use the caulk properly to ensure a successful installation of your bathroom sink.
Instructions
1. Wipe any loose dirt or residue from the joint where the sink meets the countertop. Clean the area with a household cleaner or bleach to prepare the surface for sealing.
2. Cut the tip of a tube of silicone caulk with a pair of scissors to expose the seal in the nozzle. Puncture the seal using a stiff wire or nail, then load the tube into a caulking gun.
3. Make sure there is no water around the perimeter of the sink. Insert a bead of caulk 1/4-inch thick or less directly into the joint of the sink unit.
4. Maintain the pressure on the trigger of the caulking gun for an even seal. Draw the tip along the perimeter of the sink until it is completely sealed.
5. Wet your finger and quickly glide it over the fresh silicone to smooth it. This secures the caulk firmly into the seam and evens it out as well; allow the sealant to dry overnight or for a full 24 hour period.
