Ideas For Indian Bedroom Decor

Indian decor is a hot trend, and it is perfectly at home in the bedroom where many people like to let their decorating imaginations run wild. It is simple to add a bit of Indian flair through accessories, or you can undergo a full bedroom makeover and transform your space into an Indian palace.

Indian Decor Palette

Indian decor is about color and ornamentation. Walls are often in warm colors such as butter, curry, pumpkin, terracotta, mango or earthy reds. Try painting three walls one color and accenting them with a complementary warm tone. Or you can use stencils to paint a decorative border, perhaps in paisley. Small metallic details, especially gold and bronze, add an Indian touch. You can also use textiles rather than paint to cover the walls. Hang a sari printed in pinks, oranges and gold around the window frame, or invest in a deep red embroidered wall hanging ornamented with beads and mirrors.

Indian Decor Furnishings

An Indian interior is not complete without a small coffee table, often with carved panels. These tables can hold artwork or cups of espresso. Other common furnishings include large fringed cushions that you can use for seating and ornamented ottomans. Whatever furniture you choose, look for artisan and handmade elements, such as painted filigrees, engraved wood, hand-painted tiles, mosaic insets and embroidered textiles.

Indian Decor Accessories

In Indian decor, accessories are lavish. A mirror may be framed in metal plates with engraved designs. Arches are common over doors and windows. A free floating shelf may look like an altarpiece, with ornate carvings and sculptural details. Folding wooden screens have inset panels with miniature paintings. Lighting fixtures are often metal lanterns with colored bits of glass to create beautiful splashes of light. There is less concern with coordinating colors and patterns and more emphasis on having useful items be beautiful as well.
